Do I need a credit card to start?

No. The 14-day trial takes an email address and nothing else — no card, no authorisation hold, no auto-conversion. Why most of our competitors ask for one and we do not.

No. The 14-day trial needs an email address and a password. There is no card field, no billing step hidden three screens in, and no "we won't charge you, we just need it on file".

Because there is no card, there is nothing to convert to. On day 15 the trial stops. Nothing is billed, no plan starts, and you are not asked to do anything to prevent that — see what happens when the trial ends.

The three things a card would have meant, and none of them apply

No charge. Nothing is taken, at any point in the fourteen days or after them. No authorisation hold. We do not place and reverse a small amount to validate a card, because there is no card. No auto-renewal. The trial cannot roll into a paid subscription, so there is nothing to cancel.

Why most vendors ask for one

A card at sign-up does two things for the vendor. It filters out people who were never going to buy, and — the part nobody puts in the marketing copy — it converts the ones who meant to cancel and forgot. The second effect is worth real money, which is why the practice is close to universal in this category.

We think a trial that earns revenue from forgetfulness tells you something about how the rest of the product will treat you. So we took the other side of that trade deliberately: the fourteen days have to sell the product on the data, because nothing else will do it for us.

What we do instead about abuse

The honest cost of a no-card trial is that it can be farmed — a fresh account, a hundred free leads, repeat. We accept that cost and manage it after the fact rather than taxing every legitimate evaluator up front. One trial per account, and running multiple accounts to collect repeated trials is a term you agree not to break. If you need a second evaluation for a real reason — a procurement process, a security review, a bigger sample for a data team — write to us and ask. That is a conversation, not a policy.

When you do give us a card

Only when you choose a plan, and only then. At that point card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers; we hold the last four digits and the expiry so the app can show you which card is on file. See invoices, VAT and payment methods.

Does the trial hold anything back?

No. Every country, every category, country-wide search, Geo Search, every filter, all 64 export columns, the API and the MCP server. The only limit is 100 export credits. The full list is here.

The pre-purchase version of this question, with the commercial reasoning, is on the FAQ.
