Getting started
New here? Run your first search, understand what you are looking at, and get a file out.
- How to start: your first list, step by stepTen steps from an empty account to a downloaded file, in plain English, with a screenshot of every screen. No video, no jargon — read it in about ten minutes and do it in about five.
- Choosing a location: the Country → Level 1 → Level 2 → City cascadeThe four location boxes are one funnel, and every level is optional. How to search a whole country, a single suburb, or anything in between.
- Choosing activities and business categoriesActivities are the "what" of a search. How to pick several at once, how our categories map to what Google calls a business, and how many you can combine on each plan.
- Switching from scrap.io: your files keep workingThe export is a drop-in replacement: the same 64 headers in the same order, the same tab-delimited file. Existing spreadsheets, importers and CRM mappings keep working. What is identical, what is different, and how to check for yourself in ten minutes.
- Why emails and phone numbers are hidden in search resultsSearch results show m***@cerv•••••.no instead of the real address. That is deliberate, it is not a paywall trick, and here is exactly when the real value appears.
- Searching is free. Exporting is what costs credits. The single rule that explains most of the pricing: you can search, filter and count as often as you like for nothing. Only the export deducts credits.
Free trial
Fourteen days, 100 export credits, no credit card. Every feature unlocked, nothing to cancel, and exactly what happens on day 15.
- What the 14-day free trial includesFourteen days, 100 export credits, no credit card. Every feature is unlocked, including country-wide search. On day 15 it simply stops — nothing converts and nothing is charged.
- Do I need a credit card to start? No. The 14-day trial takes an email address and nothing else — no card, no authorisation hold, no auto-conversion. Why most of our competitors ask for one and we do not.
- Do I have to cancel my free trial? No. There is no card and no auto-conversion, so there is nothing to cancel — the trial ends itself on day 15. What that day looks like, and how to close the account if you want that too.
- What happens when the free trial endsIt stops. Nothing converts, nothing is charged, and you keep every file you exported. What still works on day 15, and how to choose a plan when you are ready.
- Getting the most out of 100 trial leadsA hundred credits is a quality test, not a campaign. A method for spending them so that on day seven you actually know whether the data is good.
Subscriptions and billing
Starter, Growth, Scale and Enterprise: export credits, rollover, changing tier, invoices, VAT and refunds.
- How lead credits workOne credit is one business, exported once, in a rolling 30-day window. When they are deducted, when they are refunded, and what happens when you run out.
- What happens to credits you did not useOn Starter they expire. On Growth, Scale and Enterprise they roll over for one, three and twelve months. How rolled-over credits are spent, and the rule people mistake this for.
- Upgrading, downgrading and changing plan mid-cycleUpgrades take effect immediately and are prorated to the day. Downgrades take effect at renewal so you keep what you paid for. Where to click, and what happens to credits.
- How to cancel your subscriptionCancelling is a button in the dashboard, not an email to support. It takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for. What you keep afterwards.
- Invoices, VAT and payment methodsWhere invoices live, how VAT is applied, when the reverse charge applies, and which payment methods each plan accepts.
- Refunds and the 14-day windowWithin 14 days of a first payment, with under 20% of the period’s credits used. Plus the separate rule for exports that returned materially broken data.
- Annual billing and the yearly discountTwelve months charged once, at about 20% off the monthly rate. The exact figures per plan, why credits are still issued monthly, and what happens if you need to change tier mid-term.
How to use the app
Filters, Geo Search, what an export covers, export formats and the 64-column file you get back.
- The lead filters, and when to use eachEvery filter, what it actually tests, which export column it corresponds to, and the order to apply them in so you spend credits on rows worth contacting.
- Geo Search: drawing a polygon or setting a radiusWhen administrative boundaries are the wrong shape, draw the area you actually care about. Both modes are on every plan, at any size, including the trial.
- An export always covers every matching rowThere is no row picker. Pressing Export takes every row the search matches, and the count above the table is therefore the price. How to control it, and what that means for a big search.
- Choosing an export format and which columns to includeYou do not choose a format when you export — every format your plan includes is written, and you choose at download. How to export a subset of the 64 columns, and why fewer columns does not mean fewer credits.
- The 64 export columns, explainedEvery column in the file, in the order it appears, what it contains and when it is empty — plus the file format itself, which is stranger than the extension suggests. This is the contract.
- What happens after you press ExportExports run on our servers, not in your browser. The five statuses, what each one means, and why you can close the tab.
- Re-downloading a past export, and resuming an incomplete oneBoth are free. Where the history lives, how long files are kept, and the one case where you genuinely are charged again.
Data and coverage
Where the rows come from, how often they refresh, and what to do about one that is wrong.
- Where the data comes from and how often it refreshesThree public map sources plus the businesses’ own websites, kept fresh on a schedule weighted by how fast a category changes. Nothing is scraped while you wait.
- Why a listing has no email addressMap listings do not carry email addresses. Ours come from the business’s own website — so no website usually means no email. What to do about it.
- How to judge whether an address will bounceThere is no single true/false verified column. The deliverability signals live inside the All emails JSON — what each one means, and what none of them can promise.
- Role-split emails, contact pages and website technology columnsTwenty-four of the 64 columns are read from the business’s own website rather than from the map listing. What each one is for, what it looks like, and how complete they actually are.
- Reporting a wrong or outdated recordWhat to send, where to send it, what happens next, and when the credit comes back.
API and MCP
Authenticate with a key, call the search and export endpoints, or point an AI agent at your account.
- Authenticating with an API keyCreate a key, send it as a bearer token, rotate it safely. Where keys live, what they can do, and what to do if one leaks.
- The search endpointPOST /api/v1/search, the request body field by field, what comes back, and why the response is always masked.
- Creating exports over the API, rate limits and paginationThe export job lifecycle over HTTP, how credits are reserved and settled, the per-plan rate limits, and the pagination shape every list endpoint uses.
- Using the MCP server with Claude and other AI clientsPoint an AI client at your account and ask for a list in plain language. What the tools are, what they cost, and the guardrails.
Common problems
Something went wrong while you were using FindAndClose? Start here before you write to us.
- I got fewer emails in the file than the search suggestedFour causes, in the order they usually turn out to be true — and the one filter that makes the number exact before you spend anything.
- My export is stuck on IncompleteIncomplete is a normal, resumable status rather than an error. Press Resume, and here is what to do if it keeps stopping.
- Accented characters look wrong when I open the CSV in ExcelØstre Aker instead of Østre Aker. Our file is correct UTF-8 with a BOM — this is Excel’s import behaviour, and there are three reliable fixes.
- My credit balance dropped more than I expectedWork through these six causes in order. Most of the time it is a reservation, a select-all, or a teammate.
- I can’t sign inPassword resets, the wrong-email problem, sessions that keep dropping, and what to do when the reset email does not arrive.
Legal and compliance
GDPR, your lawful basis for B2B contact, removal requests and what you may do with an export.
- GDPR: how FindAndClose handles business contact dataWhich fields are personal data, who is controller for what, what we hold and why, and where our responsibility ends and yours begins.
- Your lawful basis for contacting businessesLegitimate interests is the usual basis for B2B prospecting, but it is not automatic. What to record, and why “the EU” is twenty-seven different regimes for email.
- Removal requests: how they work and how to pass one onWhat to do when somebody asks to be removed, what we do about our index within 30 days, and what you must do about your own copy.
- Acceptable use: what you may and may not do with an exportThe file is yours to use for your own outreach and analysis. Reselling it, republishing it as a database, and a few other things are not.
